Based on the widely praised, best-selling novel by acclaimed author, Nicholas Sparks, "The Notebook" is one film that's sure to tug at the proverbial heartstrings and leave no hankie dry. When a young North Carolina boy, Noah (Gosling, Stay, The United States Of Leland), sees the beautiful Allie Hamilton (McAdams, Red Eye, Wedding Crashers), it's love at first sight. Allie initially treats him as a friend and nothing more, but against the wishes of her aristocratic mother (Allen, The Upside Of Anger, Yes), she soon finds herself falling in love with Noah. Their vastly different social backgrounds, her mother's stifling supervision and her looming arranged engagement to Lon Hammond Jr. (Marsden, The Alibi, Heights), is more than enough to sever their romance. But Noah and Allie prove that true love is indeed strong enough to withstand the brutal tests of memory and time. A young Noah's letter to a young Allie sums it up eloquently: "The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds." Gosling's and McAdams' performances as the young couple are simply passionate and electric.
