Best-selling author Michael Crichton of "Jurassic Park" fame, gets another one of his novels onto the big screen. Crichton skillfully weaves medieval European history, fantasy and science fiction to create this thrilling adventure. In the Dordogne Valley of France, the ruins of a 14th-century castle are about to be unearthed, thanks to the relentless dedication of Professor Edward Johnston (Connolly, Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events, The Last Samurai) and his team of archaeology students: his son, Chris (Walker, Into The Blue, Running Scared); assistant professor, Andre Marek (Butler, The Game Of Their Lives, The Phantom Of The Opera); and students, Kate (O'Connor, Three Dollars, The Lazarus Child), Stern and François. However, Johnston doesn't trust the archeological expedition's sponsor, Robert Doniger (Thewlis, Kingdom Of Heaven, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban), so he heads to the U.S. to clear things with him. Johnston's students eventually discover a chamber that has been sealed for more than 600 years. Just before a disastrous cave-in, they make an unexpected and chilling discovery: a handwritten plea for help dated April 2, 1357, from their professor. The group head for Doniger's headquarters, where they are stunned to learn of Doniger's new invention - a machine that can actually transmit three-dimensional objects through space. Unfortunately, Doniger has inadvertently opened a wormhole that leads, instead, to the 14th century. Professor Johnston, who insisted on experiencing the discovery himself, is now trapped in a bloody feudal war. Determined to rescue his father, Chris and the whole group travel through the timeline. But will they be able to survive one of the most violent battles in world history, and still be able to make it back to the 21st century alive?
